Steve Bannon and Milo Yiannopoulos in Budapest
May 24th, 2018The organiser of a Visegrád-4 conference in Budapest feels that conservatives have more original things to say nowadays than left-liberals, and hopes to hear interesting remarks from Mr Bannon and Mr Yiannopoulos.
The conference is one of the last Hungarian initiatives during the Hungarian Presidency of the Visegrád co-operation. Speakers from a dozen countries are to discuss ‘the future of Europe’. The organisers invited former Trump strategist Steve Bannon and controversial writer and commentator Milo Yiannopoulos to address audiences of several hundred people, in two separate events parallel to the conference.
In a long interview on Mandiner, historian Mária Schmidt, the organiser of the V-4 conference says she might disagree on many things Mr Yiannopoulos will say on Friday, but invited him in the hope that he might stir interest and debates among young people whom it would be difficult to approach with scientific dissertations. As for Mr Bannon, beside his speech (on Wednesday evening after the first day of the conference), she looks forward to discussing with him his experience in breaking the virtual monopoly of the mainstream liberal media in America and in ‘building a new political product.’ By now, she explains, innovative ideas are coming from the conservative side: ‘conservatism is what is sexy nowadays’.
