Russia’s involvement in the Syrian war
September 12th, 2015The leading left-wing daily finds Russian military aid to President Assad of Syria indispensable to stop IS, and thus to halt further waves of refugees. This, Népszabadság adds, is bad news for pro-democracy rebels.
Those, including PM Orbán, who said that the refugee crisis should be tackled in the homelands of asylum seekers were right, Népszabadság comments in a front page editorial on Russian involvement in the Syrian war. The leading left-wing daily argues that the flow of migrants can only be stopped if there is peace again in Syria. And this is something which the pro-Western rebels are highly unlikely to achieve. Unless IS is defeated, further countries will collapse into chaos, Népszabadság adds. Assad is being supported by Russia and Iran, neither of which are keen on promoting democratic processes, but apparently without them there seems to be no chance to defeat IS, Népszabadság concludes.
