Most remaining Covid restrictions to be lifted
June 25th, 2021As the government announces the lifting of Covid restrictions, a conservative commentator accuses the Left of endangering lives by weakening their supporters’ willingness to get vaccinated.
On Thursday, Gergely Gulyás, Minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s office announced the lifting of most Covid-related restrictions. As the number of inoculated passes 5.5 million next week, mandatory mask-wearing will be abolished in all places but hospitals, and most public places can be visited even without vaccination. Gergely Gulyás said that the government has no further obligations regarding vaccination, as the number of available shots is higher than the demand. Those who are vaccinated are not threatened by the known new variants of the coronavirus, he said.
In Magyar Hírlap, Pál Dippold castigates the 3 million Hungarians who have not signed up for vaccination. The conservative commentator alleges that many are reluctant to get the jab as a result of the opposition’s ‘anti-vaccination politics’. Dippold accuses the Left of ‘serving the interests of Western interest group’, claiming that they want to undermine public trust in Eastern vaccines in order to weaken the government’s efforts to contain the pandemic and help Hungary’s fast economic recovery. Dippold hopes that those 3 million who, in his view, have been misled by the opposition, will soon realize that following the Left is life-threatening.
