President Áder criticised for staying silent

A left-liberal author finds it incomprehensible that the President of the Republic has not yet deemed it necessary to address the nation in the midst of the unprecedented virus emergency.

In Népszava, Péter Kövesdi sarcastically wonders whether the President has been quarantined and cannot even see his wife. Alternatively, he guesses, he may have been stuck in the middle of the ocean while fishing or have been kidnapped by extraterrestrials. Continuing in that ironic vein, he simply cannot find any other explanation why the President, whose role is admittedly largely ceremonial, has no thoughts to share with his fellow Hungarians. Kövesdi mentions that Israeli President Rivlin read fairy tales on TV for children the other day. In a melancholic concluding line, Kövesdy remarks that Hungarians might also appreciate a tale or two faute de mieux.
