Rock star’s performance at Tusnádfürdő criticised
August 1st, 2019A pro-government pundit protests against the presence at the traditional summer Fidesz gathering in Transylvania of liberal minded rock star András Lovasi. A Marxist philosopher, on the other hand, condemns Lovasi for accepting the invitation to perform there.
On 24.hu, Eszter Szántó writes that András Lovasi has found himself in the crossfire after having performed with his band at the Tusnádfürdő (Băile Tușnad) Fidesz summer gathering where PM Orbán traditionally outlines his political creed and vision for the future (see BudaPost, July 29 through 31). She quotes a Facebook post by pro-government commentator László Szentesi Zöldi who believes that ‘it was a huge mistake’ for the Transylvanian organizers to think that they should make a gesture to left-wingers and liberals and thus “prop up domestic liberal culture against which we have been fighting for decades”. Szentesi Zöldi deleted the post from his FB page then posted another confirming his previous position and condemning his detractors.
On 444, Marxist philosopher Gáspár Miklós Tamás strongly condemns Lovasi for mingling with the supporters of PM Orbán at their annual ritual festival. He finds it unacceptable for Lovasi to equal his ‘extreme liberal critics’ to his far-right detractors and describes the political setup in today’s Hungary as a ’post-fascist’ regime in which it is immoral to cooperate with those in power for someone like the independent minded rock star.
