June 15th, 2019A left-wing and a pro-government pundit agree that the German governing coalition is running out of steam.
Népszava’s Tamás Rónay predicts that the German CDU/CSU will soon face an even deeper crisis. The left-wing commentator recalls that according to the most recent opinion polls, the Christian Democratic parties have sunk to an historic low. Rónay thinks that their shrinking popular support will make the German Christian Democratic parties panic and switch to crisis mode.
In Magyar Nemzet, László Szőcs likens the German centre-right parties to an engine running out of fuel. The pro-government columnist speculates that left-wing parties may soon create a strong coalition that will challenge the Christian conservatives throughout the country. Szőcs predicts that their internal weakness and problems will have an impact on the German government’s leverage over EU politics.
