A left-wing comment on Xi Jinping’s imminent visit
May 8th, 2024A left-wing columnist accuses the government of acting as ’Peking’s Trojan horse’ in Europe.
In Népszava, Tamás Rónay sees nothing wrong in receiving President Xi Jinping in itself, as China is an important partner for the rest of the European Union as well. However, at a time when European countries worry about unfair Chinese competition, he deems it controversial of the Hungarian government to ‘transform Hungary into a Chinese battery assembly plant’. In his concluding sentence, he claims that Hungary’s leaders ‘consider China as a political model, while China is helping Russia in its war on Ukraine and thus represents an indirect threat to Europe’.
