Right-wing breakthrough predicted in Europe

A left-wing columnist predicts that right-wing forces will win the elections for the European Parliament next year.

In Népszava, Róbert Friss quotes a fresh report by the Stockholm-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) which suggests that liberal democracy is losing ground throughout the world. Last year, an IDEA spokesman writes, an unprecedented ‘fallback’ was measured across the 175 countries. Next year, Friss writes, the ‘(far) right’ has better chances to come to power in Europe using democratic means next year (the European Parliament will be reelected in 2024). Democracy is slow in its reactions and is rushing towards its own destruction, he suggests.
