No anti-Semitic incidents so far in Hungary
October 14th, 2023A pro-government commentator suggests that the incumbent government is the only possible guarantee for Hungary’s Jewish community to go about their daily lives without having to fear anti-Semitic attacks.
In Magyar Nemzet, László Szentesi Zöldi doesn’t believe in the possibility of lasting peace in the Middle East, at least in the foreseeable future. He thinks conflicts will flare up from time to time, with an upsurge in anti-Semitic acts in Europe each time. What Hungary can do under such conditions, he writes, is not to be drawn into that logic and see to it that its Jewish citizens can send their children to their schools, attend their religious services, cultural events, and restaurants without the risk of anti-Semitic attacks. The current government, he writes, guarantees that. If the opposition came to power, he claims, it would be incapable of providing the same level of security.
