Former Austrian chancellor praises Hungary
August 2nd, 2023A pro-government columnist welcomes the recollections of former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz of Austria about 2015, when he and his Hungarian partners opposed mass irregular migration.
Addressing the participants of MCC Feszt, the summer festival of Matthias Corvinus Collegium, a government-funded university and thinktank, Mr Kurz said Hungary and Austria were right in warning Europe that uncontrolled mass immigration would cause serious problems to Europe and should therefore be stopped. When asked about the funds being withheld from Hungary by the European Commission, he also said the European Union should accept diversity within the community.
In Magyar Nemzet, László Szentesi Zöldi describes Mr Kurz as one of the rare political leaders who dared to speak their minds in the mid-2010s when many worried about the massive inflow of asylum seekers but didn’t dare to confront the mainstream welcome culture. Szentesi Zöldi believes that even now when most leaders realise the dangers of mass illegal immigration, only half-hearted measures are being taken. He fears that, as a result, large immigrant ghettos with hundreds of thousands of inhabitants will be created in Europe whom it will be impossible to integrate. He even prophesies that what he calls short-sighted ideologies of diversity and inclusion will eventually doom European societies to lose their identity.
