Vatican and Hungary described as allies
July 21st, 2023A pro-government columnist welcomes the Vatican’s diplomatic efforts to promote peace in Ukraine.
In a Magyar Nemzet comment on the meeting between US President Biden and Cardinal Zuppi, the Pope’s peace envoy, Levente Sitkei hopes that the Vatican’s patient and quiet diplomatic initiatives will eventually prove fruitful. When the fighting finally ceases, he writes, no one will thank Pope Francis and his envoy for their efforts. Nor will Hungary be thanked, he continues, for staunchly working for peace. Their reward will be peace itself, he concludes, adding that on the grand issue of war and peace, the Vatican and Hungary are allies.
