EP delegation in Budapest
May 17th, 2023A pro-government columnist accuses the European Parliament of duplicity when its delegates suspect systemic corruption in Hungary, while their own institution is tainted with corruption scandals.
Six members of the Budgetary Control Committee are on a fact-finding visit to Hungary to assess how European funds are spent.
In Magyar Nemzet, Ottó Gajdics believes the delegates came to Hungary with a predetermined verdict and will certainly accuse Hungary of misusing the funds. Their aim, he believes, is to topple the Hungarian government by withholding EU transfers. Meanwhile, Gajdics remarks, corruption cases abound within the European Parliament and EU Institutions. What’s more, he continues, the delegates are being guided in Hungary by Momentum MEP Katalin Cseh whose former business where she served as CEO is implicated in an ongoing corruption investigation. While the probes are underway, Gajdics concludes, she should refrain from ‘lecturing us about how to fight corruption’.
