West likened to late Communist world

A leading pro-government columnist remarks on Facebook’s admission that it suppressed a news story about Hunter Biden’s laptop. He likens liberal media to Communist era propaganda.

In Magyar Nemzet, Zsolt Bayer comments on Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement that during the 2020 election campaign, the FBI prompted Facebook to suppress news about Hunter Biden’s laptop story, including his business dealings in Ukraine. The pro-government columnist sees the case as further proof that mainstream liberal media wants to control the news, noting that social media gives them a means to influence public opinion ‘that Stalin and Hitler could only dream of’. Bayer goes on to claim that the laptop story also shows that democracy in the West is in peril. He goes so far as to liken Washington and Brussels elites to ‘Communists’ for mindlessly suggesting that the ‘West’ is always right, and whatever Moscow and the East do is wrong. In light of all this, Bayer finds it absurd for the critics of the Orbán government to claim that press freedom is curtailed in Hungary.
