Weber compared to Aesop’s grasshopper
July 7th, 2022A right-wing pundit rejects the idea put forward by the chairman of the European People’s Party who called on gas importing countries to share their gas ‘through binding mechanisms’ with other EU member countries.
Magyar Nemzet’s Gergely Kiss likens Manfred Weber to the grasshopper in Aesop’s fable who begs food from the ant after having spent the summer singing and dancing while the ant worked to store up food for the winter. Kiss recalls that over the past few months, Mr Weber repeatedly condemned Hungary for rejecting the idea of cutting gas imports from Russia, on the basis that such sanctions would hit Europe harder than Russia itself. Now, he continues, Mr Weber has realised that winter will come sooner or later. In his concluding line, the columnist quotes Aesop: ‘Making music, were you? Very well; now dance!’
