Gyurcsány accused of working against Márki-Zay
April 26th, 2022A pro-government columnist cites unnamed sources to allege that Ferenc Gyurcsány did his best to weaken Péter Márki-Zay in the election – to make sure that Márki-Zay could not contest Gyurcsány’s leadership on the Left.
On Mandiner Gábor Nagy, quoting unnamed opposition sources, claims that the Democratic Coalition’s Ferenc Gyurcsány tried to actively weaken Márki-Zay in order to secure his own political survival. The pro-government commentator alleges that a secretive group including US spin doctors ‘coordinating the opposition campaign’, forced Gergely Karácsony to quit the left-wing primaries to make sure that the opposition would be led by Márki-Zay rather than the Democratic Coalition’s Klára Dobrev. Nagy thinks that the opposition’s secretive leadership wanted to make sure that the opposition is not dominated by former PM Ferenc Gyurcsány and his party. Realizing that Márki-Zay’s victory in the election would end his leadership of the opposition, Gyurcsány conspired against Márki-Zay. As Márki-Zay has been defeated and the Democratic Coalition has become the largest opposition party, Gyurcsány can maintain his power and claim the leadership of the opposition, Nagy contends.
