Left-wing pundit demands more media space for Márki-Zay
January 25th, 2022A left-wing commentator urges the public media to grant regular airtime to the opposition candidate for Prime Minister.
In Népszava, Miklós Hagitai thinks that the national public radio station should broadcast weekly interviews with Péter Márki-Zay, just as it has for years with Prime Minister Orbán. He thinks that is the minimum the station owes to the principle of fairness. Hargitay believes that Fidesz’s three consecutive electoral victories were due to its media predominance. He even characterises the state of the media as only relatively free under the left-liberal government, in 2010, when Fidesz scored its first landslide victory but since then, Fidesz gradually increased its media influence which, as Hargitay believes, allowed them to win over a million new voters. He now writes that for the next elections to be fair in April, the public media should give equal airtime to the opposition.
