PM Orbán likened to Donald Trump and Matteo Salvini
August 13th, 2019A pro-government pundit ascribes the success of the three leaders to their courage in challenging the elite and their talents as communicators.
In Magyar Nemzet, Zsolt Jeszenszky is convinced that President Trump of the United States, as well as Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini and PM Orbán of Hungary represent an epochal change, as they openly defy the narratives of the ruling international elite. All three have stood up for the ordinary citizen and the national interest, he explains, while the mainstream media represent a kind of identity politics which is centred around the perceived interests of various minorities. The media, he continues, accuse those they don’t like of racism in order to discredit them. Masses of ordinary voters, on the other hand, appreciate the courage the three leaders have shown in confronting the ruling narratives. In addition, Jeszenszky remarks, all three have been extremely proficient in setting the communication agenda: he depicts them as tireless in their efforts to set the news agenda, which puts their adversaries on the back-foot and seizes the initiative from them.
