Left-Jobbik plans for an electoral alliance
March 2nd, 2019An alt-left analyst warns that by allying themselves with Jobbik, the left-liberal opposition is taking a huge moral risk which might destroy its already torn credibility.
On Mérce, Nóra Diószegi-Horváth asks whether left-wing politicians who are convinced that Jobbik has shed its racism are aware of the kind of ideas Jobbik militants represent in their grassroots campaigns in rural and rust belt areas. The alt-left commentator remarks that local leftist and Jobbik organisations have already struck deals in many settlements where they plan to nominate candidates for the mayoral elections next autumn – candidates that will be supported by the other side. She admits that Fidesz cannot be defeated without Jobbik’s electorate but asks what kind of policies a hypothetical Left-Jobbik government would pursue if they manage to defeat Fidesz. She wonders in particular what such a government would offer to the Roma and to same-sex couples. Those are moral issues that cannot be overlooked, she warns.
