Producer Andy Vajna dead
January 22nd, 2019The leading pro-government daily bids farewell to Andy Vajna, praising his contribution to Hungarian film making. A liberal commentator suspects a fight over his media holding and casino concessions will follow.
On Saturday, film producer Andy Vajna passed away. Mr Vajna was the government commissioner in charge of the Hungarian film industry. He was also the owner of the TV2 Group media company.
Magyar Idők’s editor-in-chief Ottó Gajdics remembers Andy Vajna by recalling that after his successful career as a producer in the US, Andy Vajna helped the Hungarian film industry to develop. Gajdics notes that under Vajna’s watch, Budapest has become a popular movie-making site. Even more importantly, Andy Vajna has helped the making of successful and popular Hungarian movies including the Oscar winning Son of Saul.
On Index.hu, Gergely Brückner suspects a big fight to come over Andy Vajna’s investment empire. The liberal commentator thinks that after Andy Vajna’s death, pro-government media investors will compete for the government advertisements that Vajna’s media outlets received, as well as to get their hands on Vajna’s casino concessions.
