Far-right militia dissolved by court
October 18th, 2014As the Szeged Tribunal disbands the Szebb Jövőért (For a Better Future) organization created by the former leaders of the Hungarian Guard which was dissolved in 2009, the leading left-wing daily predicts that another similarly racist organization will be set up soon.
It took years for the courts to dissolve the racist Szebb Jövő organization known for its anti-Roma rhetoric and demonstrations, and it is likely that a similar organization under a different name will soon be registered, Népszabadság writes in a front page editorial. The leading left-wing daily finds it unacceptable that although the establishment of racist organizations is unconstitutional, courts need a lot of time to ban groups which promote racial hatred. Népszabadság recalls that Szebb Jövőért was registered immediately after the dissolution of the Jobbik-allied Hungarian Guard by the same individuals. Népszabadság finds it highly alarming that such organizations can easily evade the law and find the loopholes. The daily also admits that it has no clue how such organizations could be prevented, without authorizing the state to summarily ban civil associations without legal proceedings.
