Stars and doughnuts
June 10th, 2011One of the biggest stars in Hungarian football, Balázs Dzsudzsák signed for Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday. Although the Dagestan club plays in the Russian Premier League, most commentators believe that this was a bad decision from the (now former) PSV Eindhoven player.Dzsudzsák’s decision has caused outrage in a country which tries to be proud of its football despite all the disappointments of the last 25 years. Many fondly believed that Dzsudzsák had the chance to join a famous club like Real Madrid or Juventus, and many believe that he has placed money before his career – concludes Népszava. The left wing daily believes that for „Puskás’ people” Dzsudzsák was „the hero who had the chance to bring back a little of our former glory,” and they simply cannot bear the possibility of the fairy-tale ending badly.
Véleményvezér (Opinion Leader) believes that Dzsudzsák’s decision is reminiscent of the „get it while you can” philosophy of lángos (savoury doughnut – a Hungarian delicacy) producers around Lake Balaton in the 1980s.
„Nobody bothered with the long term investment and yield: the idea was to make the most scones out of the cheapest flour. Nobody cared if the discontented customer did not return next year” – writes the moderate conservative blog.
